SNAKES IN THE PULPIT by Reuben Armstrong

Radio host Reuben Armstrong is causing quite a controversy with the announcement of his forthcoming book called SNAKES IN THE PULPIT (which was supposed to be released in August but was released on Sept. 18th). In it, Armstrong is supposed to be exposing the deceptive practices of church men such as Bishop Eddie Long, Pastor Creflo Dollar, Pastor Joel Osteen and Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Armstrong, who hosts a live radio show called The Reuben Armstrong Gospel Show, says that he was recently threatened by parishioners of the World Changers Church International located in College Park, Georgia headed by Rev. Dr. Creflo Dollar. He was apparently urged not to publish the book. reported that Armstrong had been banned from StreamingFaith.com, a portal that was broadcasting his radio show online. He told EUR Gospel, "Yes, it was because of the enemies (Bishop T.D. Jakes, Eddie Long and Creflo Dollar). I received a call from the vice president of Streaming Faith. He told me those guys had called him asking that he remove me or they will no longer do business so he made the decision to remove me. But God is not sleep. This is an example of what these so-called men of God will do to protect themselves."Armstrong says the book will discuss certain high profile pastors, but he really doesn't say how. Is the book journalistic/investigative, pure opinion? Not sure. What do you think? Is Armstrong doing a service for churchgoers or is he being
opportunistic?

This book certainly sounds very controversial. It piqued my interest.

My first thought is...isn't everyone an opportunist? If not, we all should be. We all should take advantage of every opportunity to positively advance our lives and speak our truth. And that is simply what this man is doing; speaking what he believes. It doesn't mean what he says is the truth for all, but evidently, since he's feeling strongly enough about it to publish a work, it's the truth for him.

That said, I personally wouldn't write a book that damages someone else. We are all connected, and when you point one finger at another person, there are three pointing back at you! Now, I didn't say I wouldn't read one...:) But having grown up in the church and been intimately involved in mega-church ministries for years...nothing surprises me.

The comment by Lutishia Lovely says it very eloquently. To be human is to be opportunistic, yes. The question is whether we cross the line to damage someone at our own expense.
Snakes in the Pulpit is a powerful and evocative title, for sure!

If the so called "men of the cloth" are not living according to the Word then it should be exposed. If there is no wrong doing, then WHY the threats against Armstrong? And where are the "men of the cloth" to call down their parishiners?

OK....whew!

The church should not be turned into a profit machine and people think that it's OK. It's not unless...every penny of it is pouring back into the community to help those less fortunate, but I'll save that for our show on the 24th.

As long as Reuben is telling the truth, then if it tears down someone's phony wall of righteousness then so be it. But in the end, we all have our own crosses to bear and if Reuben is being deceitful, he will bear his.

Weighing in on Topics That Matter October Book Discussion

The topic of this month's discussion was Reuben Armstrong's book, Snakes in the Pulpit (oh, no he didnt!!!). No really, he did! He called out four mega pastors saying that they are not only "snakes" but are leading their congregations to hell. While Mr. Armstrong had some good points in his book i.e., church goers should praise God and not pastors, the WIOTTM panel gave this book a Thumbs Down due to lack of facts to back up the allegations he made against Eddie Long, T.D. Jakes, Cleflo Dollar, and Joel Olsten.

I would have to read the book in order to get the full picture. But is Armstrong just speculating. There are many of speculators that come to steal, kill & destroy...I am an actie church member....so what's done in the dark will come to light but is Armstrong staying facts or just being judgemental????I wonder. I guess I'll never know unless I grab the book... That may be what Armstong wants to do...Get money but that that doesn't mean this is the most tasteful way of doing so. If everyone sets his sights directly on GOD as is should be how much time do we have to focus & concentrate on everyone elses short-comings...Just somethng to think about ....But again I will definitely have to read the book & draw my on opinion...When I'm done I'll be an opportunist & write a book about Armstrongs books...LOL
